Popadomes
The Popadome is a frame based crop protection system (in the winter we use it to cover pots and containers to protect them from frost). There is a choice of covers available for your Popadomes so that you can use it for a multiple purposes. You can purchase fleece covers, insect mesh covers and polyethene covers.
Depending on which cover you use the Popadome can be used to cover fruit and veg to protect your crops from insects, such as carrot fly, cabbage root fly and birds, it can be used to protect newly sown lawn seed, used as a mini greenhouse or cloche, used to warm the soil for earlier crops and to protect your plants from the cold.
Fleece Covers
You can buy special heavy duty covers to fit over the Popadome. The covers are made of heavy duty fleece which is thicker than you would normally buy from a garden centre so adds greater protection from lower temperatures. The fleece that can be purchased from garden centres that is sold by the metre usually weighs 17g per square metre. The Popadome cover is 60gsm. The cover is permeable, tear resistant and UV stable. The cover has a zip which can be lined up with the main Popadome zip so you can get easy access. The cover will help warm up the soil for earlier harvests of crops and protects against freezing temperatures. It can also be be placed over pots and containers to protect tender grown plants from frost, much quicker than wrapping everything individually!
